My mother was agnostic

She never set foot in a church except for weddings and funerals and she was more Christian-like in her words, deeds and actions than my aunt and uncle, who never miss Mass no matter where they are in the world, have ever been. Imagine that.

After my mother died, my aunt asked me if my mother believed in God and I answered "it doesn't matter; God believed in her."

We did not take our sons, now 33 and 36, to any sort of organized religious services when they were growing up. At home, we talked a lot about wat it means to be a decent person, and what it must feel like to have people think negatively about you because of your skin color, country of origin, language spoken, etc, etc, etc.

I didn't publicize this approach very much, because if you tell people you don't take your kids to church, they look at you like you ought to be reported to Chid Protective Services.

After a while, I devised the term "home church." Lots of people home school their kids, so why couldn't I home church mine?
