This was a very unexpected visitor at my feeder and birdbath today in the western burbs of Chicago

(1,348 posts)I certainly didnt know about it, but maybe theyre moving out to the suburbs. Theyre certainly welcome, he was very entertaining. And with the warmer and less snowy winters weve had recently I guess if they can find enough feeders they can overwinter.

I lived in the far western burbs most of my life & never saw one.
I know someone who lived in the area of the University of Chicago, and they were present in her neighborhood I saw them there about 10 years ago. Apparently they can hunker down and survive the worst of Chicago winters.

(895 posts)My husbands friend had a parrot who was pretty talkative. But one day he got loose in the house, went to the open back door, said bye Daddy! and flew off. They never saw him again.
At least he said goodbye.
On a side note, I love the Cadfael mystery series. It is indeed an unusual name.
