Asimov's, Analog and F&SF purchased by new owner

For months there have been rumors in the science fiction and fantasy genre that the traditional "big 3" print magazines – Asimov's Science Fiction, Analog Science Fiction and Fact, and Fantasy and Science Fiction – were being purchased by new owners.

Confirmation of this has now appeared on the websites of Asimov's and Analog, as first reported by Amazing Stories. The ownership language at the bottom of both websites changed recently from “© 2024 PENNY PUBLICATIONS, LLC. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED” to “© 2025 1 PARAGRAPH, INC. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. Must Read Magazines is a division of Must Read Books Publishing, a 1 Paragraph, Inc. company. No part of Must Read Magazines or this website may be used or reproduced in any manner for the purpose of training artificial intelligence technologies or systems.”

No change has appeared as of yet on the F&SF website, but based on other information I’ve received I can confirm they are included in the purchase.

The new owner of the magazines is Steven Salpeter and a group of investors. Salpeter is the president of literary and IP development at Assemble Media and previously worked as a literary agent for Curtis Brown. According to a profile on Bisprofiles, 1 Paragraph incorporated on January 16, 2025, in St. Petersburg, Florida, and Salpeter is listed as the corporation's main officer.

This also says that Salpeter's a big SF/F fan and intends to keep the magazines in print, and the current editors will be staying.

1. Aside from anything else, an interesting question will be what this means for the Astounding Award, which was previously sponsored by Dell Magazines, i.e., the owner of Asimov's and Analog. Presumably Dell will relinquish sponsorship of the award; I wonder if the new publisher will continue it.

Might even have a few old copies in storage.

There used to be some incredibly interesting mags like that---Future, Cinefantastique, Cinefex and Famous Monsters, etc... Damn, those were the good old days.

I love to peruse the magazine rack at B&N, and bookstores period! Of course, I always go see the SF section, amongst other favorite subject matters!

I should get back to our biggest B&N in NYC. Have stayed away since covid, I probably could gave started going last summer. What's good is it right by Manhattan's biggest Green Market! Soon Summer Heirloom Tomatoes! 😄 🥰

Well, wow, not only is it still around McNally Jackson but there are a few of them! I think I only knew the one on Prince St. There's one in the Rock Center complex! 👍 Shorter trip.

6. Books plus fresh heirloom tomatoes! Sounds great (with separate shopping bags, lol). When I

lived in NYC, I'd sometimes end an evening looking around bookstores with a stop at PJ Clarke's on the way home. Not nearly as healthy as a farmers' market, but they had friendly bartenders who'd offer free drinks if I'd come in alone and was sitting at the bar, and we'd often chat about books. (I love to read, but love chatting and getting to know people just as much.)
