Silence
Silence
Narrow fissure
In the air
To my left
A tinkling bell
No cause for alarm
Silence is broken
Through the gap
Tiny voices
Whispering through the void
Calling out to me
For my attention
Urging me to turn my head
In full engagement
Resistance is futile
Music begins
At first, a happy march
In ever-growing volume
Optimistic, enthusiastic
But then, it turns
Into a screaming discord
Of anger, soaking up the hope
That I once held
The hole widens
Constant advertisement
Bellowing wild-eyed cattle
Demands for all my wealth
Insignificant as it is
They want it all
Buy this from me! they wail
Your problems will be solved!
Soon enough, the wall is gone
Politicians, lies hurled into my face
Promises given, none fulfilled
Just empty words bash against my brain
How do I ignore these villains?
How do I repel their lies?
They hold the power, dont they?
They hold my arms behind me, cuffed and shackled
The parade of madness all around me
No space between the sounds
Constant racket
Infinite voices
Blasting thunder in the air
Then I remember
I hold the remote
I turn down the volume, shut off the TV
Peace, sweet peace.
Beautiful silence once again.
