One face, anonymous
Unnamed to the leaders
Unknown to the masses
Just a stranger in the crowd
Watching the parade
As time crawls by
One fragile day at a time
I don’t own this,
This broken world
It is not my fault
At least not totally
I’ve committed my sins
Never been forgiven
For dragging holiness through the embers
Of a burned-out country
It is so different from when I was young
My hopeless optimism
My boundless potential
Or so I thought, as I was unaware
That there were millions of souls
Better than me
More gifted
Kinder
More thoughtful
Who should really rule this world
In the hope of collective joy
But now, it all goes to the powerful
The Group became the enemy
The opponent of greed
So valued in this fire
That burns away the love we used to have
This is not my world
I do not own it
It is not mine
Nor does it belong to demons
Who seek to destroy it
Or to rule by the poison
Of fear and possession
It is not their world
In the end, the greedy ones
Will be erased
As they try to take us down
Down to the grave with them
To be buried in the rubble
In obliterated cities
That is not a world I want
I would rather hide in the shadows
Than watch our world be shaken
Pulled down to the foundation
Of soil and ancient stone
Fossilized remains
Would be all that is left
This world, all ours, belongs, in truth, to no one.
