Here's a repeat of mine from last fall. In honor of today -- "No Kings"

I will not serve a king
No bowing at the knee
No lowering my face
To stare at jeweled boots

I would rather die than fold
And deny my fragile rights
To live by choice where and how I wish
To be just who I am

I do not respect the scepter
The emblem they believe
Exudes all power and all strength
From its diamond-encrusted head

No, we do not need a king
We need only competence
To govern in our interests
To do that which is right

We don’t live in the Middle Ages
We are not lowly serfs
No crowns, no capes, no fortress walls
No feudal obligations

I will not worship a king
No human being upon this earth
Is good enough to devote my life
In obedience to them

We must not have kings
