Summit
From the beginning
A steady climb
Perpetual hazards
Daily obstacles
Every day for me a trek over rocky ground
Cutting stones, soaking pools, deadly pests
I grow stronger as my way is hampered
And I push the obstacles away
The grade is steeper
With every step
Energy fades
Will I reach the goal?
From a distance, I can see the darkening clouds
Ominous, sinister, lightning-filled
But onward I must go, ignoring the danger
Striving for the heights, on my way
Finally with one last step
I have reached the summit
All around me lower down
I stand on top of the world
I have won!
--
But now, a realization
I cannot stay forever
Lest I die here and fade away
On this mountain peak
I must go downward
Back into the valley
Dangerous and hidden
No way to know the outcome
Every day, a sinking feeling
That I will never reach a peak again
Every day, I realize
The climb has ended
The summit gone
My dreams achieved
Theres nothing left
But memories
That fade with time
Lost memories of greatness
In my mediocre life
I have lost
