LAFAYETTE, La. (NEWS 15) Lafayette Parish schools are set to display the Ten Commandments in classrooms following a recent court ruling. The superintendent informed principals that they have until Friday to ensure the posters are up.
School leaders instructed principals to collect the Ten Commandments posters from the school district office. This directive followed an appeals court decision in New Orleans that lifted a previous order preventing the display of the commandments.
The appeals court did not address the constitutionality of the law, stating that its ruling does not hinder further legal challenges.
Consequently, Lafayette Parish School System (LPSS) will comply with the state law mandating the display.
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Louisiana announced plans to continue legal challenges against the display requirement.
