(ESPN) "Tom Brady says his dog is a clone."
"The six-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback and current Fox Sports broadcaster said Tuesday in a statement from a company he is an investor in that his dog, Junie, is a clone of his late dog, Lua."
"Brady made the announcement on the same day that Colossal Biosciences, a venture capital-backed biotech start-up, made an acquisition of another animal cloning firm, Viagen Pets and Equine."
"Colossal, which aims to 'fix' extinction, among other goals, is said to be valued at $10 billion -- and this is its first major acquisition."

(7,035 posts)something or someone you deeply love. But surely it was explained to this guy that even tho he had the dog cloned, it may not even come out looking like the original, in coloring, etc.
And yes, I think he should have adopted a new dog. There are too many in shelters and rescues and fosters that are looking for forever homes to go the lengths Tom Brady went to.
I loved my Sweetie cat more than I thought I could ever love anything... but even I know there'd be no way to truly "clone" him. He was unique... one of a kind. And no amount of science could have made up for the lifetime of experience that cat accrued. THAT made him who he was. And not having him with me here today, walking across my keyboard as I try to type, makes me still want to scream in grief. But the small kitten I found... cold, hungry, scared, alone... thanks him for allowing it to become part of our family.

Members of one dog breed have lots of personality traits in common, so nothing special about a cloned dog.
Expensive exercise. And nobody would notice.

"If you're hoping to make a copy of your beloved pooch or kitty, it costs about $50,000 paid in two equal installments, according to Viagen.
If you want a horse to be cloned, that cost is $85,000, per Viagen. "
