I'm having my Thanksgiving tomorrow. Like I do every year, I take this day for gardening because it is the only day other than Christmas where leaf blowers aren't going at full blast.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

(59,485 posts)We'll have between 15 and 20 people over, Germans, Austrians, USA, maybe Netherlands.
Our Turkey is about 12 kilos this year. Gravy is made from the run-off from the oven. We got imported stuffing mix and fresh cranberries from New England (my wife makes THE best fresh-made cranberry sauce in the world). We'll also have grated red beet salad, sweet potatoes, mashed (as in mashed this afternoon by out granddaughters) white potatoes, String beans sautéed with mushrooms, a green salad with a sesame-teriyaki dressing, plus a bittersweet chocolate mousse and a strawberry mascarpone, both made by neighbors.
There are always plenty of leftovers, in case anyone is within less than 1000 KM of here. Please do not call earlier than 10:00 AM CET, so we can try to sleep off some of the cholesterol shock.

Turkey rice soup
Honey roast peanuts
Garlic bagel chips and hummus
I might warm up some leftover southwestern corn and some sweet potato if I feel hungry later, but first I should eat the leftover salad.
I'm just about to strain the ham stock I've been simmering all afternoon and I'm thinking of all the bean soups that will be made from it.

(1,686 posts)Made a vegetable lasagna and a couple ice cream pies to take over to my nieces family potluck Thanksgiving dinner. She made the turkey and stuffing and the 12 other guests made vegetable side dishes and fabulous desserts. It was an early dinner and we brought home the leftover lasagna . I feel like nuking another piece since Im getting hungry again.
Was thankful I was surrounded by all progressives, but we hardly talked about politics at all, and I was fine with that.
Happy Thanksgiving fellow DUers!
Cheers!🥂

(36,874 posts)...so they're in the soux vide now. Dry -brined and herbed. I'll crisp 'em up later. Serving with roast butternut squash, and broccolini. Leftover cranberry sauce.
dressing, biscuits, baked sweet potatoes (with butter, parmesan and black pepper), gravy, cranberry sauce (with orange zest), and Sicilian eggplant caponata relish. Chilled cava to drink. Pumpkin pie.
There'll be lots of leftovers, especially the caponata. DH won't even try it. I thought it was a bit harsh going into the canning jars, but months later, it's mellowed wonderfully. I'll eat every bit of every last jar...eventually. There's quite a bit.
The only glitch was when I set the neck, wing tips and giblets to simmer in broth and then went to watch the dog show. Afterwards, I scraped the ice off the walk. When I came in, it was to the distinct smell of scorching - the broth boiled away and the giblets burned. I just tossed it all and used another jar of broth to make the gravy. But I hate that I wasted stuff out of a simple lack of attention. Oh, well.
And the dog show is always great. I agreed with the winner, even though it wasn't one of my favorite breeds. God, what a beauty!

(1,513 posts)Son was up so late that he slept until 4, and I was wrapped up in a book until almost that late, still lazing in bed when he got up, so we didnt even start cooking until after 8
Luckily, we only have to work around ourselves and managed to be on the same schedule today.
Id already made my vegan turkey roast a couple days ago and just needed to heat it through. Added a mix of roasted tatties and carrots (both multi-colour, oddly enoughrusset, red, and blue tatties and white, yellow, orange, and purple carrotsplus cornbread stuffing and gravy, then pecan pie for dessert.
Looking forward to turkey sandwiches tomorrowwhenever we manage to get up. At least we dont have tryptophan to drag us down on top of the full bellies.
