Ugh! Toenail fungus. Trying to get rid of it. Using anti-fungal topical medication to get rid of it.

Does anybody have further info that can help get it cured? I'm using the anti-fungal liquid but it doesn't seem to help. Going to my doctor in a few weeks. Anything different I should do?

I got it from a pair of second-hand winter boots. I tried the OTC remedies but all they did was make it spread. You'll need a Rx for it, turbinafin(e?) that you have to take, once a day, for close to a year depending on how bad it is.

You will also need to throw out all the shoes you've worn while afflicted with this thing. Also, cleaning the shower floor more often helps but you can't keep wearing the same old shoes/boots that carry the fungus, can't get it out and you don't want to keep reinfecting yourself once you start treatment.

It cost me over $400 to replace all my shoes and good winter boots but it was worth it.

You also have to keep watch for relapses. I use a medicated powder in my shoes now just to be safe.

Good luck.

I used the grinder to knock down the end of the nail to its bed. Thereafter, I used various hygiene products to kill off the fungus. It is a long process to eliminate the fungus. Also, the pace of the toenail's regrowth is slow.

I am afraid of the high-powered prescription medicines which are used to combat toenail fungus. Physicians order blood work to test liver functioning before the medicine is prescribed.

I’ve only had to halt treatment once due to adverse liver function. And any liver reaction is temporary, and reverses when treatment is stopped.

You need oral terbinafine. It’s a 12-week course of daily medication. You start with a baseline liver function test. If that’s normal, you start on 6 weeks of treatment. At the halfway point, you get a follow up liver function test, and if it’s still normal, you get the second 6 weeks of treatment.

It kills the organism that causes the infection. Then you wait for clear healthy nails to grow in.

Podiatrist to determine if it is fungus and what it's sensitive to. People often think "fungus" when it's not. I was a foot care nurse for the last 5 yrs and this is a common thing. Get a correct diagnosis first, them you can develop a proper treatment.

same ingredient that worked great. File the nail surface so it's thin and apply twice a day. Takes a bit of time but it's effective.

On edit: don't waste your money on laser. It's doesn't work at all.
