When Sophie* woke up on the floor ...
I blacked out, my legs were kicking, I broke a glass, she says. At 19, it was the first and only time anything like that had happened to her. When I came to, I couldnt work out who he was, where I was, what was going on. And it was utterly terrifying.
She had not asked to be strangled, or choked as it is often called, but the encounter had been consensual and she says she had accepted being strangled as a normal part of sex.

She realises now she should have seen a doctor after the seizure, but the man persuaded me not to because he didnt want to get into trouble and I was worried about being shamed in some way.
The first major study on strangulation during sex found that more than half of people under the age of 35 had experienced it and it was common among teenagers as young as 16 who had seen it in porn and on social media.

(3,109 posts)1. how unusual is this? i guess i;m a few generations older than the sample group
who had seen it in porn and on social media.
it would be hard to find a dividing line but
maybe this kind of porn should be censored and categorized with the things where people die or minors are involved.
and where do they learn to hang themselves? this is close to "autoerotic asphyxiation" in that i'm sure people die while being choked.

The first major study on strangulation during sex found that more than half of people under the age of 35 had experienced it and it was common among teenagers as young as 16 who had seen it in porn and on social media.
Choking/strangulation during sex is prevalent among young adults, with one study finding that 58% of women college students had ever been choked during sex.

Choking/strangulation during sex is prevalent among young adults in the United States. We examined associations between having ever been choked and participants' current mental health symptoms (e.g., feeling depressed, anxious, sad, lonely) in the prior 30 days and in the prior year. Participants were 4352 randomly sampled undergraduates who completed a confidential online survey and reported lifetime partnered sexual activity. 33.6% of women and 6.0% of men reported having been choked more than five times.

As for the censorship issue...
I'm not sure how many people are honestly prepared to unquestionably submit their personal information to a site in order to access any information, especially adult content.

"a normal part of sex"??? If my sexual partner even tried to put their hands on my throat, they would be lucky if they survived the attempt, and I am not exaggerating.
