The Taliban government in Afghanistan on Sunday called on the US to uphold its commitments under the Doha Agreement, urging Washington to avoid what it described as a return to "past failed approaches" and pursue a "policy of realism and rationality."
"It should be recalled that, under the Doha Agreement, the United States pledged that it will not use or threaten force against the territorial integrity or political independence of Afghanistan," Taliban deputy spokesman Hamdullah Fitrat said in an official statement.
The Taliban reiterated its desire for constructive relations with all states. The statement added that Taliban authorities have consistently communicated to the United States in all bilateral negotiations that, for the Taliban government, Afghanistan's independence and territorial integrity are of the utmost importance.
The statement was issued in response to recent remarks by US President Donald Trump about reclaiming Bagram Airbase, formerly the largest US military base in Afghanistan.
