PARIS (AP) Frances foreign ministry officials met Monday with a representative of U.S. ambassador Charles Kushner after the American diplomat was summoned over his letter to French President Emmanuel Macron alleging the country did not do enough to combat antisemitism.
Mondays meeting took place after Paris rejected Kushners criticism as unacceptable and announced it had summoned him. Since the diplomat was absent, French officials met with the embassys No. 2 in his stead.
The summoning of the ambassador is a formal and public notice of displeasure.
During Mondays meeting, French officials denounced the letter as interference in Frances internal affairs and said it presented a view that did not correspond to the reality of authorities fight against antisemitism, according to a French diplomatic official who spoke under condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter.
