AI delusions

"The most widespread AI delusion is, of course, that an AI can do your job (it can't, but an AI salesman can capitalize on this delusion to convince your boss to fire you and replace you with a chatbot that can't do your job)."

but AI is already doing jobs people used to do.

I used to write code as part of my job description. Been writing computer code since I was 12... now 69. I've been fortunate enough to move up both management and technical ladders ( sometimes switching from ladder to ladder ) since I graduated college. Now instead of defining a project and giving it to person or group of people to implement, I simply define the project to and AI and ask it to write code for me. Yes, it isn't perfect, yes I need to sometimes give it a polish after the AI generates the code... but the AI's are already getting better and the project takes like 5% of the time that it used to... and it usually does exactly what I want, sometimes with surprising bells and whistles that I would not have bothered with if I wrote it myself.

Did i just put 3 or 4 people out of work. Possibly. Right now there is enough automation work that they are all busy using AI to assist THEM is doing even more work for my company.

But, if you are in college right now and learning how to write code in python or whatever... and are planning to write code for a living, I would start learning a new skill.
