During the 2024 presidential campaign, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters general president Sean OBrien spoke at the Republican National Convention and the group ultimately declined to endorse a candidate for the first time since 1996. According to internal union polling, 60% of Teamsters preferred President Donald Trump, who has endorsed Ramaswamy in the race for governor, over then-Vice President Kamala Harris.

(5,092 posts)The majority of union members voted for Harris. Union leadership and a lot of the rank and file just happen to be self-serving assholes who don't really care about solidarity or collective struggle; they only see union membership as a means to a good job and pension for themselves. Yes, we should be pro-union, but that means making it easier to join a union and educating people on why collective bargaining (key word COLLECTIVE) is instrumental in building a strong middle class. Leadership is too cozy with the establishment and cares more about who uses what bathroom than what they can do for their members.
