Revised news release dates following the 2025 lapse in appropriations

The other thing is that until about 3 days ago, the Fed had expected to see a number of reports before their December 10 rate-setting meetings.

The big "First Friday" Employment Situation jobs report

It was expected the Feds (and we) would see the Establishment Survey October and November together on December 5 -- the Establishment Survey is what produces the headline non-farm payroll jobs numbers and average earnings. But no, that's coming out on December 16 -- nearly a week after the Fed rate-setting meeting.

(The Employment Situation report comes from 2 surveys, the Establishment Survey and the Household Survey).

It has long been known that there would never be an October unemployment rate produced (which comes from the separate Household Survey), but they were expecting to see the November unemployment rate on December 5. But no, that comes out December 16, again too late for their rate-setting meeting.

CPI Consumer Price Index Inflation

The November CPI report was expected December 10 at 8:30 AM ET -- hours before the rate-setting decision (that is announced at 2pm ET). But a couple days ago (November 21) it was announced that November inflation would be coming out December 16 -- too late for the rate-setting meeting.

Also, the October CPI inflation report is cancelled - that was announced on November 21. We won't see October CPI inflation ever (since we've already experienced it, heck it's water over the dam anyway. Hardship Builds Character).

And so...

That's a lot of data relevant to setting rates that won't be available.

Given that the latest available is that nonfarm payroll jobs averaged only 39k/month over the last 5 months,

and given that the latest CPI report shows an increase of the year-over-year number for 5 straight months, to 3.0%, and that the average annualized rate in the last 3 months is 3.6% (and rising)

well, both of these (jobs, CPI) are signs of a very troubled economy. And very disturbing that the Feds and us won't see updates of ANY of these numbers before their December 10 rate-setting meeting.
