Chile is set for a run-off presidential vote next month, after Sunday's election failed to establish a clear winner. While vote counting is still underway, early results put leftist Jeannette Jara of the Communist Party narrowly ahead of the hard-right José Antonio Kast of the Republican Party. Neither candidate managed to secure 50% of votes, which is needed to claim victory. The election campaign was dominated by concerns over rising crime and immigration in Chile, with calls from the right for mass deportations. Speaking to supporters after polls closed, Jeanette Jara criticised her right wing opponents' fear-based campaigns.

Last time a left-wing candidate won there, we aided and funded the Pinochet takeover.

And his brother Miguel, was Chile's Central Bank president during Pinochet's calamitous 1982-83 collapse - which Reagan then decided to bail him out of (à la Trump/Argentina)...
Them apples didn't fall far from the tree.

Your article will help us remember how unusual, and how stark the lines are from the Chilean fascists to the lethal presence trying to force its comeback now. There are actually so many dead serious fascists in the "New World" aren't there? Good grief! So many of them, and they are all brutal.
Your video link was so helpful. I hope everyone will take the time to watch it. We in this country can NEVER learn nearly enough about how things really work. So much effort has been made to keeping us in the dark. Remember Nixon's words to Kissinger, or else his CIA guy, Richard Helms, "Make sure our hand doesn't show."
He even had his CIA working in the newsroom of Chile's biggest newspaper, El Mercurio," Agustin Edwards, to whom Richard Nixon gave a million dollars for "walkin' around money."
(The video mentioned the Nacional Stadium, where Pinochet kept some of his political prisoners. They brilliantly hit on the idea that the noise from the stadium was a great screen to cover the sound of prisoners being tortured down under the stadium while the games were being played! Reminds us of the great ingenuity in being able to move right from the invention of the airplane almost immediately to the real practice of flying over "enemies" and dropping things on them to kill 'em!)
Again, it's important to remember the direct line from genocide in Europe to the migration of monstrous Nazis to the Americas right after the war, and their living proud direct descendant, Jose Kast.
