With 737 Max production steadying, Boeing eyes FAA cap increase
As the Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA) steadies production on its 737 Max line in Renton, the airplane manufacturer is preparing to seek regulator approval to produce more of the bestselling jets.
Boeing plans to ask the Federal Aviation Administration to raise its monthly cap to 42 of the 737 Max by the end of the year, Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg said Thursday at the Morgan Stanley Annual Laguna Conference.
This summer, Boeing ramped up production on the 737 Max line to 38 jets per month, reaching the limit imposed by the FAA after a series of quality and safety crises reached a boiling point in January 2024 when a door-plug panel blew off a 737 Max shortly after takeoff.
Ortberg said Boeing has been charting its progress on six key performance indicators on 737 Max production, metrics the aerospace manufacturer uses to measure the stability of the production line.
