Microsoft tightens in-office policy for Seattle-area employees

Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) is bringing employees back to the office at least three days a week.

Amy Coleman, the chief people officer, wrote in a company memo Tuesday that Puget Sound-area employees will be expected to adhere to the new policy starting in February. Employees outside Washington, including international employees, will also phase into the new schedule.

“Our goal with this change is to provide more clarity and consistency in how we come together, while maintaining the flexibility we know you value,” Coleman wrote.

The move, rumored at Microsoft for months, puts the company more in line with its crosstown rival Amazon, which started requiring corporate employees to return to the office full time at the start of the year.
