Virginia Democrats continue strong fundraising trend ahead of election
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - The Virginia Public Access Project released campaign finance numbers for statewide races with less than three weeks until Election Day, showing Democrat Abigail Spanberger maintaining a significant fundraising advantage in the gubernatorial race.
The most recent campaign finance reports show Spanberger has raised more than $50 million during this campaign season. Republican Winsome Earle-Sears has raised just under $26 million.
“Spanberger was always up something like two-to-one over Winsome Earle-Sears. You know, this time she’s still up, but it’s a lot closer, right?” said J. Miles Coleman, UVA Center for Politics’ media relations coordinator.
Coleman said the Center for Politics feels confident about Spanberger’s lead in the gubernatorial race, with the Attorney General contest emerging as the more competitive statewide race.
