Comal County Democrats, Republicans to hold joint primary, runoff elections

On Thursday, Dec. 11, the Comal County Republican and Democratic parties entered an agreement to hold joint primary and, if needed, runoff elections for the upcoming 2026 local election.

Chair of Comal County Democratic party Victoria Locke and Chair of the Comal County Republican party Anita Valdez presented their agreement in commissioners court, asking to hold a single, joint primary to conserve time, resources and taxpayer dollars.

The primary election will be held March 3, 2026, and runoff elections will be held May 26, 2026, should they be needed.

Filing closed Dec. 8, 2025. Candidates are as follows:

Up until 2014, my county had separate primaries and runoffs but that stopped when we went to county wide voting. As a favor to the local election administrator, I was the GOP precinct judge because otherwise my youngest child would have to be the judge for both primaries. I was amused when republicans insisted on voting with their gun licenses even though that slowed up the line (it was faster and easier to check in a drivers license). I like countywide voting.
