Game of chance being used in Northumberland County to decide Sunbury City Council race

SUNBURY, Pa. — Election Day has come and gone in the city of Sunbury. However, there is one race that is still waiting to be decided on.

Democrat Victoria Rosencrans and Republican Andrew Ramos ran against each other for an open city council seat, but on election night, they tied at 751 votes each.

"What needed to happen was, there were two provisional ballots, so they couldn't count those until three days after, so then we came in here (Northumberland County Board of Elections office) and they opened the Provisionals. One was for me and one was for Andrew Ramos, so now here we are at 752," said Victoria Rosencrans, (D) Sunbury City Council Candidate.

Rosencrans says there are a few options - one being asking for a recount, which both candidates declined to do. To decide which candidate wins the city council seat, the county board of elections is going to have it decided through a game of chance. The board of elections says it can be anything from a coin toss to a dice roll, cutting a deck of cards, or even drawing straws. Rosencrans says this is a bit frustrating.
