Pennsylvania State police said a teenager shot by a federal agent in Aliquippa on Thursday evening was fleeing from officers and “discharged a firearm towards them.” The 18-year-old died at a hospital early Friday morning. No officers were injured in the incident, state police said.

Linmar Terrace, the Beaver County housing complex where the shooting occurred, was quiet Friday as neighbors gathered to mourn the death of Kendric Curtis. A small memorial made of candles was placed at the bottom of a staircase at the housing complex. About a dozen people gathered at the site, some standing, others sitting on the steps, as they held colorful balloons at the makeshift memorial.

Elsewhere, the neighborhood remained quiet as some residents sat on porches near the entrance to the housing complex. Things were not so calm Thursday night, when the shooting occurred.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the FBI and the Beaver County Municipal Police Task Force were conducting a joint investigation in the area of Waugaman Street and Tyler Street, state police said in a statement Friday afternoon.
