All School Board Candidates Advance in Tuesday's Primary Election
DOYLESTOWN, PAIt was a slow day for voter turnout during Tuesdays primary election, but all the candidates for the Central Bucks school board won enough votes to continue into the regular election in November.
There are four open seats on the school board, with one Republican and one Democrat running for each seat. Because the school board is supposed to be nonpartisan, candidates typically cross file, which means they run on both the Republican and Democrat tickets. The sample ballot for Democrats, for example, listed both Republican and Democratic school board candidates as Democrats. The same was true for Republican candidates.
Cross filing opens up the possibility that in an upset, a Republican can get enough votes to win and be listed on the Democratic ticket in November (or vice versa), bumping candidates out of the regular election. That didnt happen in yesterdays race because Republican candidates got the overwhelming majority of Republican votes and the same thing happened with Democratic candidates.
With this election, the Central Bucks School District is moving from nine regions to three regions. Until now, the district has had one region for each township or borough, with one representative from each area. The new map will have three larger regions, with three representatives representing each region.
