Newport City Hall packed over ICE facility concerns (Newport, Oregon) - 2 videos

Nov 12, 2025
Hundreds gathered at Newport City Hall Wednesday to oppose rumored ICE facility near the airport, as officials demand federal clarity.

Also this:

Tears, frustration and fear from community at Newport meeting over potential ICE facility

The public gave emotional testimony Wednesday night during a City Council meeting as rumors swirled that the federal government wants to site an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility at the city’s airport. Outrage has been pouring in over the prospect an ICE facility in this small Oregon coastal town 130 miles southwest of Portland. During Wednesday's meeting, one girl, Abril Aldama, tearfully recounted the day she said federal agents detained her father on Sept. 17.

I live here and this terrifies me. The concentration camp would be blocks from my home. I used to substitute at the schools and the kids and their parents are an integral part of our community.

Yesterday, I saw a pickup truck with huge militia-type flags driving around South Beach. They used to come out more often, but have been absent for awhile. It scares the crap out of me that so many of our younger professionals are getting laid off, while the ICE jobs would be the highest paid jobs along the coast, attracting the neonazis. We could be the next Malheur.

Invasion from within. Suppression of a population. Violation of a community. Immolation of the social contract.

And now it becomes apparent, with the cuts to NOAA, climate research, and marine biology, that soon ICE thugs will have the most lucrative high-paying jobs in the area. It's sick, and I'm furious.

“Maybe somebody thought ‘Oh it’s a small place, it’s rural, they’re probably quiet, we can overpower them,” said City Councilor Steve Hickman. “We’ve been underestimated.”

Angela's take seems to be that apparently, in these initial bursts of proto-fascist activity, such statements of resistance as seen at the council meeting are quite effective in slowing immediate progress. The F47 regime is testing the waters and preferentially exploiting communities which fold immediately, of which Newport is, for now, not one. The awareness of resource re-allocation leading to active public opposition is not what DHS looks for in a concentration camp hometown.

I hope she's correct; regardless, the opposition must continue, and grow over time. It sure would be nice to see resistance spread across the entire coast! good job, Newport! Not done yet, though -- central OR coast is too valuable a geographic resource for them not to keep trying. And there's little communities all up and down 101 that could also be in danger.
