Norton, Springfield Township voters reject new taxes for first responder operations

Voters blocked new taxes in Norton and Springfield Township as several Summit County communities decided tax levies in the Nov. 4 general elections.

Only one proposed tax increase was approved. By a 104-92 vote, Boston Township passed Issue 46 — which contained renewal of a 7-mill tax along with a 0.5-mill increase for police services, .

Norton voters rejected Issue 41, renewal of a 5.6-mill tax, and 3-mill increase, for fire department and emergency medical service. Nearly 55% of votes were cast against it.

Springfield Township's Issue 50 was voted down. About 54% of votes were cast against the additional 1.5-mill tax for police and emergency medical services.
