Senate Bill 153 would require proof of citizenship and makes changes to petition rules among other election changes Th

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - Instilling confidence in Ohio elections while requiring proof of citizenship is the goal of a Northern Ohio lawmaker with a new bill proposal.

Senate Bill 153 makes significant changes and updates to Ohio’s election and petition process.

Republican Bowling Green Senator Theresa Gavarone said this bill further secures Ohio’s elections by requiring proof of citizenship to vote, modifying election petitions, increasing transparency on when circulators are paid, and ending ballot drop boxes.

“If people don’t have confidence, they’re not going to come out to the polls,” Gavarone said. “Really helping make sure that only people who are legally allowed to vote are having their vote counted.”
