Candidates.
Akron City Council Ward 1: Democrat Fran Wilson earned 51.48% of votes, defeating Democrats Sam DeShazior and Emily Durway. No Republicans ran for the seat, formerly held by DeShazior who was appointed in January 2024 to fill the vacancy after Nancy Holland resigned.
Winning this election after a back-room, off-the-record Council appointment process that cut neighbors out sends a clear message: Our people are hungry for bolder, more present leadership, Wilson said. Im ready to bring my neighbors into the work at City Hall and to advocate on issues impacting the quality of life in Akron.
Akron City Council Ward 8: Democrat incumbent Bruce Bolden earned 56.42% of votes, defeating Democrat N.J. Akbar. No Republicans ran for the seat, formerly held by Bolden who was appointed in July 2024 to fill the vacancy after James Hardy resigned.
It is a relief, Bolden said of the win. The experience I bring to the table resonated with the residents. I am ready to stop campaigning and start doing some work for the ward.
