Jenkins (D). wins Westchester County Executive special election

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. — Democrat Ken Jenkins won the special election on Tuesday for Westchester County Executive, making history as the first African American elected to lead the county.

His Republican opponent, Christine Sculti, who was endorsed by President Donald Trump, called Jenkins to concede the race. While the Westchester County Board of Elections has yet to finalize the results, Jenkins is the projected winner with a substantial lead more than two hours after polls closed.

According to the Westchester County Board of Elections, as of 11 p.m. Tuesday, Jenkins had secured 61 percent of the vote. With 81 percent of election districts reporting, he had received 32,536 votes, compared to Sculti’s 20,875 (39 percent).

Jenkins was appointed county executive by the Westchester County Board of Legislators in early January after then-County Executive George Latimer left to assume his seat as U.S. representative for New York’s 16th Congressional District.
