Meet the Candidates: Clara Wilson (D) Shares Views Ahead of the Franklin Township Board of Education Election
OMERSET, NJ - As part of TAPinto Franklin/Somersets Meet the Candidates series, all candidates running for the Franklin Township Board of Education were invited to participate and respond to the same set of questions about key issues facing the district. Each candidate was also asked to share background information about their education, professional experience, community involvement, and priorities for Franklin schools. Below are Clara Wilsons responses, shared in her own words and lightly edited for grammar and clarity.
Wilson was born in Singapore and is a proud product of South Brunswick Public Schools, where she attended from kindergarten through 12th grade. Raised in a bilingual household with her brother and sister by her hardworking mother, Wilson went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University.
She taught at the middle school level for 15 years before starting her own business as a piano technician. Over the course of her career, she has taught both music and math at public, private, and commission schools in urban and suburban settings including inclusion classrooms, Extended School Year programs (ESY), and during the pandemic via Zoom.
Wilson comes from a family of educators and says she looks forward to helping all students flourish and supporting teachers in their passion for teaching. She hopes to bring her extensive classroom experience to the Board of Education to ensure that all students needs are met within the district and that families feel confident choosing Franklins public schools.
