Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts announces re-election bid, says he'll focus on lowering property taxes

Gov. Pete Ricketts said he will continue to make lowering property taxes a top priority during what he hopes is his second term as governor.

On Sunday, Ricketts formally announced that he is running for re-election, stressing a businesslike plan for government.

His plan for another four years, he said, is a continuation of the priorities of his first term: striving to be “customer-oriented” to his constituents, cost-efficient and effective, he said. In an appearance in Omaha, Ricketts said he would continue to make lowering property taxes a top priority, a promise he campaigned on in 2014.

A crowd of between 150 and 200 people gathered for Sunday’s warm, briefly rained-on event on the rooftop of a north downtown eatery in Omaha.
