HAMILTON DILLON POLEBRIDGE Kent Kernahan, of Corvallis, said hes a Methodist ministers child, and he demonstrated Saturday at the No Kings Indivisible Bitterroot rally after asking himself what his father would have done. Kernahan carried a sign that said, Lord, Please Forgive Trump, along with an image of the Gadsden Dont Tread On Me image.
Among more than 700 people who lined several blocks of U.S. Highway 93 in downtown Hamilton, Kernahan said the symbol represents opposition to the king of England stepping on the colonies, but its misunderstood by some who claim it. I dont think it means what they think it means, Kernahan said.
No Kings Indivisible Bitterroot, part of a national No Kings rally and among a couple of dozen planned demonstrations in Montana, took place in Hamilton, a smaller community of roughly 5,000 in the Bitterroot Valley.
Montana supported GOP President Donald Trump with 58% of the vote in 2024, but Ravalli County, a Republican stronghold in the red Bitterroot, backed him with 69%.

(98,285 posts)Orange autocrat, a large portion of the workforce in Montana are government employees, many are protesting now. Montana is waking up. Many are also pissed about the proposals to sell off Public Lands to private entities including foreign interest. Chinese interests have already swallowed up numerous properties surrounding the National Parks in the state, if not foreigners, it's the oligarchy. Mind you, more than 50% of Montana's land mass is Public Land.
About time they pulled their heads out of their asses, they've already driven me out of the state by making it impossible to afford even a two room cardboard box of a dwelling maxing out at 400sqft among policies geared toward serving only the wealthy. Maybe it's because the governor and both senators and House reps are all billionaires.
For years I fought and warned that the land grab was coming but I always got elbowed out of the conversation so...

(15,621 posts)These are "red" areas of Montana, as I recall.
I have read about excellent rallies in Missoula (10,000!!! - generally a very "blue" area) and Billings (much more RW than Missoula), where they lined up several feet deep along several city blocks (didn't see a head count yet- My sisters and their families attended that one.
I also read about a couple hundred people who lined up along the "HiLine" (US Rte 2) in Hill County - sparsely populated and also not known for voting "blue."
If the DNC is intelligent enough to implement Howard Dean's 50-state strategy, where Dean spent time building up the state Dem parties - which NO ONE has done since his tenure; such stupidity is appalling, IMO). This is why I was very disappointed when Martin O'Malley was not selected as the leader of the DNC. He is a true Dean believer, as I am.
If these rallies are reflected in states like MT, we Dems will miss a great opportunity if we do not follow up FAST!
