Hinds County judicial candidate appeals election loss to state Supreme Court

ACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - The legal battle over a 2024 Hinds County judicial election is on its way to the Supreme Court.

On Friday, Bridgette Morgan filed an appeal of a lower court’s decision dismissing her election loss challenge to Yemi Kings.

In a runoff last November, Kings narrowly defeated Morgan in the race for Hinds County Court Judge, District 2, by a vote of 2,484 to 2,234.

Morgan filed a petition appealing the certification of those results, arguing, among other things, that absentee ballots in the general election were “not handled or counted in accordance” with state statute.
