Banquet Menu from the Possum Club. Detroit, Michigan in 1900.

It seems that Claret is the proper wine to serve with possum. Who knew???

It's fascinating to see what people considered to be a well-rounded meal in times past.

This one lost me on the stuffed possum, but I'm sure i wouldn't have any trouble filling up on the cold ham and turkey!

on the Kentucky Hoe Cake and it does appear that it would be like a Johnny Cake made of cornmeal or biscuit dough etc. and maybe served with butter or preserves. So let's recap. We have greasy possum, sweet potatoes, cornmeal cake, maybe some radishes and blue points beforehand and then a jug of claret. Finished off with a cigar. That's a gut rumbler if I ever heard one.
