At-large New Bedford City Council candidates field questions at forum, from housing to ICE

NEW BEDFORD — At-large city council candidates fielded 11 questions thrown their way in a rapid-fire format that gave them 30 to 90 seconds to respond during an Oct. 15 candidates’ forum.

They were asked their views on New Beford’s most pressing issues, including housing, whether police should cooperate with ICE, if they supported term limits, what small businesses need, managing the budget, and ways to cope with youth violence.

Eight of the 10 candidates for the five spots open on the board participated in the forum at the Keith Middle School that was hosted by Greater Southeastern MA Labor Council, League of Women Voters SouthCoast, NAACP New Bedford Branch, New Bedford Human Rights Commission, United Interfaith Action, Women’s Fund Southcoast, Women’s Alliance of Southeastern MA, and the YWCA of Southeastern MA.
