Early voting begins in Springfield for preliminary election

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – In-person early voting for Springfield’s preliminary election started Friday at City Hall.

The early voting period, which runs until September 5th, includes elections for City Council candidates in Wards 4 and 6, as well as the School Committee in District 3. Voting takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Springfield City Hall.

Mayor Domenic Sarno, who voted early Friday, emphasized the importance of participating in local elections. “Veterans made ultimate sacrifices in order for us to vote,” he said. “Your vote can make a big difference.”

Mayor Sarno noted that Springfield typically experiences low voter turnout for primaries, and he encouraged residents to research the candidates on the ballot. The preliminary election results will determine the candidates for the general election in November.

The early voting initiative aims to make the voting process more convenient for residents, with the hope of increasing participation in the local election. With early voting underway, Springfield residents have the opportunity to engage in the outcome of their local government elections.
