Frederick County Councilman McKay (R) Decides Not To Seek Re-Election

Frederick, Md (KM) There’s one less incumbent seeking re-election to the Frederick County Council next year. Councilman Steve McKay has decided not to seek another term in office, citing a medical issue. He also said he will not be running for County Executive.

“For For last year, I’ve been evaluated with a medical condition. It’s something that I believe I can manage, but it would be much harder to do so while holding down two jobs in my 60’s. So after talking it over with my wife, Pam, I’ve decided that it’s time to take a step back,” McKay said in a statement.

McKay also says he realizes this decision will disappoint many citizens, and for that, he says “I’m sorry.” But he says that this is a step he does not takes lightly, and “certainly not without tremendous reservations that I’ve had to overcome. I never anticipated taking this path in life and it’s all too easy to contemplate continuing it, but I know that I’m making the right decision for myself and my family,” McKay continues in his statement.

Despite his decision not to seek re-election, McKay says he will continue to do the job for the citizens of District Two. “I don’t plan on just sitting on my hands for the next year. That’s not what you elected me for, and that’s not what I plan to do,” says McKay.
