Who's paying for Louisiana constitutional amendment campaigns mostly remains secret

A lot remains unknown about who is funding political campaigns to support and oppose the five proposed amendments to the Louisiana Constitution on Saturday’s ballot.

Many groups working on proposition campaigns either haven’t filed public campaign finance reports, or they are funding their campaigns through organizations that don’t have to disclose their donors.

Gov. Jeff Landry’s political group, Protect Louisiana Values, has transferred $1 million into a pro-amendment campaign account since Jan. 1, according to a review of its campaign reports. There is also a visible effort to get people to vote against the amendments in protest of Landry.

But there have been almost no reports filed with the state detailing fundraising or spending on “opposition” campaigns to the amendments, making it very difficult for the public to know who is funding these operations or how much they are spending.
