Early voting in CT brings long lines, excitement ahead of presidential election

After a slow uptake to early voting in Connecticut with disappointing numbers during this year's presidential primary and the August primary, there were fears that the trend may continue prior to the coming Nov. 5 election.

Those fears were quelled Monday.

In the first chance to vote early in a presidential election, Connecticut voters showed up in droves across the state beginning at 10 a.m. Monday. Many voters and election officials credited such a turnout with the significance of this election and having their voice counted, and the sheer convenience that early voting provided.

Even Gov. Ned Lamont was surprised - in a good way - by the turnout. When told he may have to wait about 40 minutes to vote at his polling place in Greenwich, the governor opted to leave, promising to return another day.
