Pursell again seeks Richmond council seat
Having fallen short four years ago, Jamin Pursell is again seeking the District 4 seat on the city council in Richmond, California. The queer and nonbinary small business owner in the East Bay city must first survive the June 2 primary.
Due to a change in how the city runs its council elections, the contests for Richmond mayor and three of its council seats will appear on next months ballot. Pursell is one of three candidates running in District 4, and should one of them receive more than 50% of the vote, they will be declared the winner.
If that threshold isnt met then the top two vote-getters will advance to a runoff race on the November 3 ballot. Councilmember Soheila Bana is seeking reelection to the seat, while Keycha Gallon, executive director of the gun violence prevention group Keys to the Future, is also in the race.
At this point I believe I can secure a runoff. I feel very confident about that, Pursell told the Bay Area Reporter.
