Embattled Engardio crushed in first tally of recall vote

Initial results show District 4 Supervisor Joel Engardio is set to be recalled.

Nearly two-thirds of ballots counted as of press time Tuesday night were cast in support of ousting Engardio, whose district mostly consists of the Sunset and Parkside neighborhoods west of 19th Avenue.

Of the 15,468 ballots counted by press time, 65% were in favor of recalling Engardio versus 35% that were cast in favor of him remaining in office. Ballots will continue to be counted, and results will be updated in the coming days.

Tuesday’s recall election was the culmination of more than a year of controversy over Engardio’s support of Proposition K, the 2024 ballot measure that permanently closed a 2-mile section of upper Great Highway to cars.
