Arkansas ranks among highest sales tax rates across the US

Updated: Feb 21, 2025 / 11:11 AM CST

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Two things in life are certain death and taxes, and Arkansans are no strangers to the last one.

Every time you make a purchase—whether it’s groceries, gas, or clothing—a portion of your payment goes toward maintaining roads, funding public schools, supporting emergency responders, and paying government employees.

Arkansas is ranked third in the highest average combined state and local sales tax rates.

I was in LA and the sales tax went up . Took McDonalds senior coffee to over 1.0$.
I often drive to LA from MO thru AR. always try to to blast thru AR without stopping.
Was in fouke AR and developed a deep hatred for that town in 5 minutes.

I had to pay the "tourist tax" of 14%. And that was in 2008, so it might have gone up since then.

I think the booze tax is also 14%.
