"Bookends"

Mates.

Pete likes to graze.

"The grass is supposed to be greener on the other side,
blah blah heck, this looks pretty good right here."

"Ahh what have we over there . . ."

The Kids have been out in their two--acre pasture.
Yesterday they were introduced to the five-acre section.
Laurie led Maddie. Pete came on his own.

He was first through the gate.

She was close behind.

This was working well.

After three pleasurable hours Laurie got her horses in.

Around The Farm ~
Laurie did some painting on the outside of the barn.
She painted both "eyebrow dormers", starting with this one
on the south side.

The other dormer came later.

She applied paint to this gable end.

The other gable end, where the tractor enters, will be the last place she paints.

Inside the barn Laurie continues to make improvements.
She installed a "rat run" (the first of three), a 2 X 4 brace
placed between two trusses for stabilization.
To do so she wedged one end of the brace in the truss
(two ladder steps below her boots and to the right)
climbed down, tied a horse's lead line to the other end
of the brace (five ladder steps down, just to the right)
and pulled it up to attach to this truss.

Laurie climbed back up to the first truss, "un-wedged" the brace
and screwed it in.

Mom and mare.

Beyond the barn Shadow explored a waterline ditch.

She retrieved her Jolly Ball and eagerly ran it back to dad.

Later on, I finished up what Laurie had begun.

And of a springtime day, grasses bent to the breeze.

(40,955 posts)Yay! New Pasture! Did the grass taste better over there?
Laurie up on those ladders, Yikes! she certainly has no fear of heights.
Shadow is a good little inspector.
Will the whole barn be painted blue eventually?

(12,691 posts)Can't speak to taste of grass. It is longer, less weedy over there. Horsies like it for sure.
Laurie/ladders. A means to an end. Less costly than hiring out the job. As long as I have known her, my wife uses her learned skills effectively. She does what it takes to get things done. I will say that you'd not find me that high up in the air without a net.
Shadow surprises me all the time. Like when I saw her traversing the trench. She does look as if she's inspecting its ditch-fitness.
The blue paint is an accent color to the barn as a whole. The eyebrow dormers on the south and north sides and on both gable ends, east and west. Laurie's had this all planned out for some time. It's very nice to see her plans unfolding.
