The lyrics evoked fantasies of the blonde saxophonist (formerly clarinet player) with whom I was enamored at the time, at the age of 15...
We were both in 'advanced band' in what used to be known as 'Junior High school', grades 7 through 9 in the 1970's...
We were never together as boyfriend and girlfriend, which I would have wanted, BUT
on a bus trip to Toronto and back in early 1978, for a marching band competition,
I managed to get the seat next to her on the way back home,
and she fell asleep with her head on my shoulder, and I was in heaven!
This was the climactic moment, after having been enamored with her for a year and a half, in band class...
I only looked at her for all that time (is a wonder nobody ever figured that out, but it was a big room... I was a drummer
in advanced band, but also a pianist and took a semester of beginning trumpet).
(and later she wrote in my yearbook, "you're a nice guy to sleep with, (on the bus to Toronto)!" )
In my first semester of high school, I dropped out of band in favor of journalism
as my only allowed elective in 10th grade, so I didn't have to look at her every day,
and that phase of my life passed--- but I still love this song. Pardon my recollections...

(2,407 posts)Funny how one song can take you back nearly 50 years and remind you of someone special. I kinda dig that about some songs in my life.

Yeah, both kind of 'pop' before I became a dedicated FM-radio hard rock fan and scorned such things, for a while...
but now they can still bring tears to my eyes

(3,703 posts)if I had 'seized the moment' at the right time.... or done something more to inject myself more into her life more than I had the guts to do....
but I was a very shy fellow. Managing to seize that bus seat next to her on the way home from Toronto
was a pretty major accomplishment for me.....
A year or so later, I fell deeply in love with a brunette,
who coincidentally had the same first name, and fully returned my affection

(2,407 posts)I think about going back in time and making different decisions but decide it would probably just turn into a horrible episode of the Twilight Zone. That usually cures me temporarily .

(3,703 posts)It wasn't pretty, to put it mildly, LOL. Her health wasn't very good,
(might have accounted for her incredibly pale skin,
seems at the end of one of these competition band marches,
she fainted to the ground, but I didn't see that moment)
But the Facebook photo of my ex-wife is much worse, LOL
she looked like her father, who was an unattractive man---
but his ideas were likewise unattractive, he was fond of using the 'N-word'---
and I found racist memes against President Obama
on my ex-wife's Facebook page....
Well, she was a good Democrat while she was with ME....

(74,892 posts)They had a hit "Run, Run, Run" in the early or mid 70s.

(74,892 posts)Enjoyed reading it. I have a few "fond memory" songs, too.
BTW: Jay had a couple other hits with Spirit & Jo Jo Gunne, so he was only a one hit wonder under his own name.
