When the last band I was in got together I told them Monk was my biggest influence.
A couple years later, the drummer, who sold HVAC equipment, had a customer that also owned a record shop.
That guy gave him a CD that was a jazz sampler. Early in the CD, there was a song by Monk.
Drummer told me he said out loud, "That sounds like GAC "
At the next traffic light, he grabbed the box and sure enough, it was Monk.
I'm not sure how one's influences could be revealed more than that.
