(54,340 posts)We slow down during the winter months, but it's good to know where to go with questions. Which reminds me . . . I've got a vintage handbag with a musty smell inside. It's cheesy plastic, but worthy of freshening up because it's ugly. I forgot what we decided worked best for musty smells.

(26,028 posts)I've been told that if you put a dryer sheet (bounce or the like) in an item and set it aside for awhile it will help the smell. We don't use dryer sheets, so I've never tried it but the conversation was between a couple of old antique dealers and they all agreed. I've used Murphy's soap to wipe wood that smelled moldy and it helped.
Good luck.

(5,211 posts)We put charcoal in our basement to take care of musty smells and it's working. A piece of charcoal wrapped in paper to protect the interior might help also.
Please let us know if anything worked on your purse.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
