Hostess cupcakes have shot up in price and gotten much smaller at the same time...geez...

Bad for you I know but the chocolate Hostess cupcakes now cost nearly $5 a box while the cakes inside are much smaller. I don't buy them anymore...Just one example of crazy food prices in the central US...

I remember you could buy one of their pies for something like 7 cents.

You bake a box cake mix in a 9 x 13 pan, let it cool, then use a cup, push it down into the cake, lift it out, put a layer of frosting across the top and then dip it in sprinkles. I saved coleslaw containers from Long John Silvers, imagine they'd work pretty well. If you left off the sprinkles and topped it with whipped cream or cool whip, you'd probably have a pretty good substitute. I bet you could use ReddyWip to put cream inside the cakes.

You can find online videos showing how to make the dot cakes.

I keep ingredients on hand and bake at home. Still cheap to bake a cake, a batch of cookies or a loaf of bread. Of course, everyone in my family is horrified of carbs.
