It's National Meatball Day.

So I am informed by the people who keep track of such things.

Subway is celebrating. I used to be addicted to these things.

Who doesn’t love free stuff?

WTOP is relaunching “Friday Freebies,” bringing you the top freebies you can get in the D.C. region, every week.

• Subway is offering a deal on March 9 for National Meatball Day. Pay for a six-inch meatball sub, and get it upgraded to a footlong for free if you ask.

Yes, I know I'm a bad person. Thank you.

when I was a kid. Like ‘Sal’s Subs’, all were independent, not a chain store in existence yet.

Nana would simmer four gallon pots of her secret pasta sauce with handmade meatballs and sausage from the old country recipes, to be used in the family sub shops.

The local Italian sub shops are gone for good now, replaced by chains producing fake meatball with hamburger helper-like fillers and bread.

End of cranky old man rant

They always claim the truck just came and everything is still frozen. Last week they only had white bread. They used to
have 3- 4 employees now 2. One day last week they had 1, the other was on break, he said. So, no doubt they will
be out of meatballs today.
