The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI tried a boxed wine (so you don't have to!). My review below:
It's a red, a Cabernet Sauvignon from a brand called "Black Box: Brilliant Collection."
(My cleaning lady had to help me open it and set it up).
Review: It was watery tasting.
You're welcome.

(68,522 posts)... not so easy on the aisles in a market.
Particularly when their wine knowledge is limited to red/meat, white/fish, rose if they aren't sure about which goes for meat or fish. Who don't know what QMP, DOC or AC mean, or what the significance of areas mean, I've had some pretty average Sonomas, Napa's, or what varietals do better where - Shiraz in Australia, Tempranillo in Spain, Sangiovese in Texas, Merlot in Argentina. A good box or jug wine is a good start that won't break a bank or disappoint.
I've seen labels that say everything I'd want to see on a label that were plonk.

(6,335 posts)From Woodbridge is very nice. But then I ice it down too so wine devotees wouldn't think much of my review.

(67,063 posts)It has the best taste, to me, of any of the alcohol free brands. They make the Merlot first and then remove the alcohol. I don't know how they do it but they have a little video on how they do it on their website. I think it tastes great and goes well with dinner but without the alcohol.
I find that as I age my body has become less tolerant of alcohol and my doc says I can't drink it any more. But I love the taste of wine so the FRE brands are just right for me!

(74,432 posts)...but I would say there's a high likelihood you wouldn't like their wine in a bottle either.
There's no chemical reason why wine in sealed box would be affected by air, temperature or light any more than bottled.
You critique seems to be more about Black Box that the box itself.

(56,448 posts)one advantage to this type of packaging. unfortunately it doesn't fit into the whole "ceremony" of wine culture. hard habits to break. I still have slight mental problems with screw caps but there are lots of really good wines in that format now.

As you say: Unscrew, open, pour, drink.
